How Much Does Gun Safe Moving Cost in DFW?

There are two honest answers to this question. The quick answer: most DFW gun safe moves cost between $425 and $900, with the typical Liberty Colonial or Browning Silver move in the $550–$750 range all-in. The complete answer depends on five variables: safe weight, your city's travel zone, move distance, add-on services (bolting, unbolting), and whether you're picking up from a store versus a home-to-home move.

This guide breaks down every cost component with real 2026 DFW market pricing — sourced from our own completed moves across all five DFW counties. Every number on this page reflects what our customers actually pay, not national averages that have no relationship to Dallas-Fort Worth labor rates, fuel costs, or the unique characteristics of DFW homes.

One thing sets us apart from every other DFW gun safe mover: we give you a written quote before any work begins. What we quote is what you pay. No stair charges added at delivery, no weight-reassessment fees when the crew arrives, no surprise trip charges. Use the calculator above for an instant estimate, then call (972) 528-0385 for your exact written quote.

What Affects Your Price

The 6 Things That Determine Your Gun Safe Moving Cost

Every quote we give is based on these six variables. Understanding them helps you know exactly what you're paying for — and where there's flexibility.

1Safe Weight — The Biggest Driver

Weight determines crew size, equipment requirements, and time. This single factor accounts for 60–70% of your total cost. A Liberty Colonial at 600 lbs needs 2–3 movers and standard hydraulics. A Liberty Presidential at 2,000 lbs needs a 3–4 person specialist crew and industrial-rated equipment. If you don't know your safe's weight, check the door interior label — it's on virtually every modern safe. Or call us with the brand and model number — we maintain a weight database for every major safe manufactured since 2000.

2Your City's Travel Zone

Our primary operations hub is in Garland at 2913 Big Oaks Drive. Cities close to Garland — Sachse, Richardson, Rowlett, Wylie — have the lowest travel fees ($75–$85). Cities farther out — Arlington, Denton, Lewisville, Fort Worth — carry higher travel fees ($120–$145). The city-by-city table below shows exact travel fee ranges for every major DFW city. The travel fee is a flat addition to the base rate — it doesn't change based on whether you're moving 2 miles or 12 miles within your city.

3Move Distance (Beyond 15 Miles)

Our base rates include up to 15 miles of one-way travel. Moves beyond 15 miles add approximately $5 per mile each way beyond the base distance. A 30-mile one-way move adds roughly $75 to your base rate. A 50-mile move adds approximately $175. Most DFW moves — even cross-city moves like Garland to Frisco or Richardson to Arlington — fall within 20–35 miles, adding $25–$100 to the base rate. Long-distance moves over 60 miles get a custom rate.

4Move Type — Store, Freight, or Home-to-Home

There are three distinct move types with different cost profiles. Store pickup (from Academy, Bass Pro, Cabela's) adds $50–$75 coordination and loading fee — this includes our crew meeting the store's loading staff and securing the safe. Freight curbside-to-room adds a $75 coordination fee to receive the freight carrier and handle the placement. Home-to-home is the standard base rate with no coordination fee. Most DFW moves are either store pickup or home-to-home.

5Add-On Services

Bolting, unbolting, door removal for tight clearance, and extended carries are all optional add-ons priced separately. The most common add-on in DFW is concrete bolting — roughly 40% of our customers choose to have the safe anchored. Costs range from $100–$200 depending on the bolt pattern and concrete condition. Full add-on pricing is in the dedicated section below. Add-ons are always disclosed in your written quote — never added at the door.

6Scheduling — Same-Day vs. Advance

Standard advance scheduling (1–7 days out) carries no premium. Same-day service adds $75–$125 depending on crew availability at the time of your call. Early morning calls (before 9AM) have the best same-day availability across all DFW zones. Weekend moves carry no weekend premium — we operate 7 days a week at the same rates. The only surcharges are same-day service, extended distance, and add-on services — all disclosed upfront.

What Academy & Other DFW Retailers Actually Cost — Total Picture

Every major DFW gun safe retailer delivers to curb or driveway only. Moving the safe from curbside into your home is a separate job. Here's the total cost picture for each retailer.

Academy Sports — All DFW Locations
DFW has 15+ Academy locations. Every one delivers to your vehicle in the parking lot — not to your home. The pickup fee covers our crew coordinating with their loading staff, loading safely, and delivering to your ground-floor room. Liberty, Browning, Stack-On, and SentrySafe are the primary brands at Academy.
Pickup add-on: +$50–$75
Bass Pro Shops & Cabela's — DFW
DFW Bass Pro (Grapevine, Garland) and Cabela's (Allen) carry premium safe brands including Liberty, Browning, and Stack-On. Loading procedures are warehouse-style and require more coordination than Academy. Slightly higher pickup fee reflects this.
Pickup add-on: +$60–$85
Tractor Supply — DFW Metro Locations
Tractor Supply locations throughout DFW carry American Furniture Warehouse and Stack-On safes in the entry-level range. Good option for 150–350 lb safes. Curbside delivery is standard — same pickup service applies.
Pickup add-on: +$50–$60
Online / Freight Direct (Liberty, Fort Knox, AMSEC)
Liberty Safe, Fort Knox, and AMSEC all sell direct online with freight delivery. Freight carriers — ABF, XPO, UPS Freight — deliver to your driveway or curb and require a signature. We meet the carrier and handle the rest. This is the most common entry point for serious DFW safe buyers.
Coordination add-on: +$75
Private Sale / Craigslist / Facebook Marketplace
Buying a used safe from a private seller in DFW? We pick up from any DFW address and deliver to yours. This is treated as a standard home-to-home move — no additional coordination fee. Just give us both addresses and the safe's weight.
No extra fee — standard home-to-home rate
Walmart / Sam's Club — Entry Level
Walmart and Sam's Club carry Stack-On and SentrySafe in the 50–200 lb range. These moves are typically Tier 1 pricing ($350–$500 base). Same-day service is common for these lighter safes — call early for crew availability.
Pickup add-on: +$50
DIY vs. Professional

Is DIY Gun Safe Moving Actually Cheaper?

The honest answer: for safes over 500 lbs, almost never. Here's why — with real numbers.

Cost Factor DIY Move (600-lb Liberty Colonial) Professional Move (Moving Company Guys)
Equipment rental $150–$300/day (hydraulic dolly, floor runners, moving blankets) Included in base rate
Labor 3–4 people needed — paying helpers $50–$100 each = $150–$400 Included — professional trained crew
Floor damage risk High — 600 lbs on hardwood or tile without proper runners causes $500–$2,000+ in damage Floor runners on every move — damage covered by our insurance
Doorframe damage risk High — a Liberty Colonial is 30" wide; standard doorframes are 32" Pre-measured, padded — we've done this thousands of times
Injury risk Significant — OSHA reports 21,000+ heavy item move injuries per year in the US Workers' compensation covered — not your liability
Time investment 4–8 hours including equipment pickup/return, planning, move, cleanup Typically 1–3 hours from arrival to final placement
Safe damage risk High — dropping a 600-lb safe voids the warranty and can damage the locking mechanism Hydraulic equipment rated to 5,000 lbs — no drop risk
Insurance coverage Homeowner's insurance rarely covers DIY moving damage Full cargo and liability insurance on every move
True total cost $300–$700+ in equipment and labor, plus unquantified risk of $500–$5,000 in damage $575–$800 all-in for a Liberty Colonial in Dallas/Garland — written quote, no surprises

The real math: DIY equipment rental + helpers costs $300–$700. That's close to the professional rate. But it doesn't include the risk — which is where DIY safe moving can get catastrophically expensive. A single cracked tile floor in a Highland Park or Frisco home can cost $3,000–$8,000 to repair. A scratched hardwood floor in an East Dallas historic home costs $2,000–$5,000. Voiding the safe's warranty by dropping it costs you the entire replacement value. For safes under 300 lbs, DIY is reasonable. For everything over 500 lbs, the math almost always favors professional moving.

Save Money Without Cutting Corners

How to Reduce Your Gun Safe Moving Cost in DFW

Seven legitimate ways to lower your total cost — none of which involve compromising on safety or professionalism.

✅ Things That Lower Your Cost

  • Schedule in advance. Booking 3–7 days out avoids the $75–$125 same-day surcharge.
  • Clear the path before we arrive. Pre-cleared routes reduce job time — though our base rate is fixed, keeping the crew efficient matters for scheduling.
  • Combine moves. If you're already moving and need the safe relocated at the same time, we can often schedule it alongside a regular move for a combined rate.
  • Choose a ground-floor garage placement. Garage and ground-floor placements are the most efficient — no complex interior routing adds time or complexity.
  • Be in the east Dallas / Collin County corridor. Cities within 10–12 miles of our Garland hub consistently have the lowest all-in rates in the metro.
  • Know your safe's exact weight before you call. A confirmed weight means we can give you the tightest written quote on the first call — no need for a site visit or adjustment.
  • Skip the bolting if you're in a temporary location. If you're renting and plan to move again in under a year, skip the $100–$200 bolting fee and wait until you're in your permanent home.

❌ Things That Add Cost (Good to Know)

  • Same-day calls. +$75–$125. Always avoidable with a little advance planning.
  • Not knowing the weight. If we can't confirm weight before arrival and it's heavier than expected, the quote may adjust. Know your weight first.
  • Safes still anchored to concrete. If you told us the safe isn't bolted but it is, the unbolting fee gets added on arrival.
  • Long carries with no truck access. Gated communities or back-property placements over 100 feet add $50–$100.
  • Tight doorways under 32". Older DFW homes, especially in East Dallas and Oak Cliff, sometimes have non-standard doorframe widths. Measure first.

💡 The Written Quote Guarantee

Every Moving Company Guys job starts with a written quote. We don't show up and reassess. We don't add stair charges at delivery (we don't do stairs — ground level only). We don't charge for fuel separately. The number in your written quote is the number on your invoice. That's our promise on every DFW gun safe move.

Gun Safe Moving Cost — Questions Answered

Direct answers to the most common DFW gun safe moving cost questions. Still have questions? Call us — we quote in minutes.

Gun safe moving in DFW starts at $350 for safes under 500 lbs in the east Dallas / Garland corridor. The most common move — a Liberty Colonial or Browning Silver (500–800 lbs) — runs $575–$820 all-in depending on your city's travel zone. Large safes (800–1,200 lbs) run $775–$1,035. Extra-large (1,200–1,800 lbs) run $975–$1,225. Vault-class (1,800–5,000 lbs) get custom quotes starting at $1,175. These are all-in prices including travel — use the calculator above or call (972) 528-0385 for your exact written quote.
Cities in the east Dallas corridor closest to our Garland operations hub have the lowest total rates. Garland itself has the lowest travel fee (+$75), followed by Rowlett (+$85), Richardson (+$85), and Sachse/Wylie (+$100). All-in totals for a typical medium safe (500–800 lbs) in these cities run $575–$785 — roughly $50–$150 less than Fort Worth, Denton, or the outlying Collin County cities.
No. Every Academy Sports location in DFW — all 15+ of them — delivers to your vehicle in the parking lot or to the curb/driveway only. Moving the safe from the store or curbside into your home requires a professional moving service. We pick up from any DFW Academy location and deliver to your ground-floor room. The pickup add-on is $50–$75. Call us before or after purchasing — we coordinate with the store's loading staff and handle everything from there.
Bolting a gun safe to a concrete floor costs $100–$200 as an add-on to the moving service. The price varies based on the bolt pattern required for your safe model, concrete condition, and the number of anchor points. Re-bolting at a new location costs the same. Unbolting an existing safe costs $75–$150 depending on the bolt type and how long it's been installed. All bolting services are performed with properly rated expansion anchors — not just lag screws into wood.
Yes — weight is the primary pricing variable. Safes over 1,000 lbs require a 3–4 person specialist crew and industrial hydraulic equipment. The Tier 3 rate ($700–$900 base) covers 800–1,200 lbs, and rates step up from there through Tier 5 for vault-class safes up to 5,000 lbs. Safes over 2,500 lbs get a custom quote — call us with the brand, model, and your address for an immediate written price.
Yes, modestly. Frisco and Prosper carry a +$110–$120 travel fee versus +$75 for Garland. On a medium safe (500–800 lbs), that's roughly $35–$45 more for the same job. The total for a Liberty Colonial in Frisco runs $610–$820 versus $575–$775 in Garland — a $35–$45 difference. Both Frisco and Prosper are well within our standard service area and we do frequent moves there — the slightly higher fee simply reflects fuel and drive time from our Garland hub.
The Liberty Colonial 23 weighs approximately 600 lbs empty and is by far the most common gun safe we move in DFW. A standard home-to-home move in the east Dallas / Garland corridor runs $575–$700 all-in. In Plano, Frisco, or McKinney, expect $610–$740. In Arlington or Fort Worth, expect $620–$780. Academy pickup from the nearest Academy to your home adds $50–$75 to any of these totals. Bolting at the new location adds $100–$150. See our full DFW hub for more Liberty Colonial detail by city.
